Productivity is an additional progress bar that fills up while crafting the main item.
Upon reaching 100%, you receive an extra copy of the crafted item, and the productivity bar resets to zero. For recipes involving a byproduct, productivity affects only that byproduct.
The percentage shown (e.g., 50%) indicates what fraction of the main crafting progress goes toward the productivity bar. Thus, 50% means an extra item every second crafting cycle.
